David Wilson, the prop forward for the Aviva Premiership Rugby Football Union club Bath Rugby is eyeing triumph in the European Challenge Cup in order to showcase the great improvements shown by the team this time around.
And the performance of the team in their semi final victory over fellow Premiership rivals the London Wasps has proved to him that the side is more than capable of taking a European trophy home after years in the doldrums. Bath was brilliant as they defeated the Wasps 24-18 to book their place in the final of the European Challenge Cup and according to Wilson, now that they have reached the final, there is no turning back.
According to Wilson, the players have put in hours into practice, working hard since pre-season and after all that preparation, not reaching the top four would have been devastating for them. But now that they have reached the final, Bath Rugby will have to secure the trophy in order to call it a successful season.
The last time the club won silverware, it was the European Challenge Cup back in 2008 and to get back to trophy winning ways with another European trophy under their belt would be quite a boost for the club ahead of the new season.
Wilson stated that it wouldn’t be a good enough season if they lose the final and have nothing to show for a season that has seen the rebirth of a side that had been struggling with finances and the emergence of clubs like Harlequins FC and Saracens FC for some time but things seem to be falling into place right now.
Bath Rugby takes on the Northampton Saints, which defeated Harlequins FC in the other semi final match in the final at Cardiff Arms Park next month.
